Yellowstone 2016
Chief Joseph Highway Cascade
I have visited and photographed this spot several times over the years. This picture was taken in the fall when the water levels were low. However, I have pictures taken in the spring and early summer when this cascade was powerful that it sprayed water everywhere.
By the way, this cascade is right by the highway and has a bridge walkway that crosses it.Ewe Sheep
Bighorns inhabit a vast range, from the Rocky Mountains in Canada down to the deserts of the American Southwest. They are relatives of goats and have balance-aiding split hooves and rough hoof bottoms for a natural grip. These attributes, along with keen vision, help them move easily about rocky, rugged mountain terrain.
Roosevelt Arch
Entrance to Yellowstone at the north gate at Gardiner, MT. The Roosevelt Arch is a rusticated triumphal arch at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, Montana, United States. Constructed under the supervision of the US Army at Fort Yellowstone, its cornerstone was laid down by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. Its designer is a mystery. It is constructed of hundreds of tons of native columnar basalt. It rises 50 Feet and was built at a cost of $10,000 which is equivalent to $250,000 today.
A time capsule was arranged by local Masons and placed inside the Arch during the dedication ceremony. It reportedly contains a Bible, a picture of Roosevelt, Masonic documents, local newspapers, U.S. coins, and other items.Norris Geyser Basin
