Panoramic Photography
Theodore Roosevelt National Park Pano#1
This image was taken with a Nikon D750 and a Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens set to a focal length of 50mm. I also shot this in portrait (vertical) mode to have a taller image. They were overlapped by 30% to ensure a seamless stitching. This image consisted of five exposures shot in manual mode. Each image was 4016X6016 or 28.47MB in size. They were captured at f/11, 1/320 second, and ISO of 400. Normally I refer to shoot landscapes at a slower shutter speed and lower ISO but due to the wind and cloudy day I had to adjust for the weather conditions. I stitched these together using Photoshop with content aware to fill in any blank areas and I think it did a great job.
I did little processing in Bridge until the images were stitched together then saved the pano as a tiff and took it back into bridge to complete the RAW processing. Next, I took it back into Photoshop. I added about ten layers but was unable to save it with all its layers because the file exceeded the 4-gigabyte limit. I had to flatten the image and then save it with the final file size being 473.65MB. I can only image the size of the file had I have used my Nikon D850 with its 45megapixels.Theodore Roosevelt National Park Pano#2
After completing the processing, I was not happy with the image because the sky was mundane to me, so I decided to try and replace the sky using the sky replacement filter now offered by Photoshop. I found a replacement that I believe still reflected the cloudy conditions but also included some color. I did have to use a gradient to match the color temperatures to areas of the image for a smoother transition. This is the before and after image both being saved as a jpeg but were still 35.51MB in size. FYI: These images are the same size but the white canvas makes it appear smaller.
