Runge Nature Center
Whenever I walk this area I can get a 3 mile workout in. I double back on one section to accomplish this. While visiting this area you might run into the resident flock of Wild- Turkeys, lots of birds, squirrels, and even a Black Snake. There are numerous trees some really large and old, and even a fire tower which you can climb.
Runge Conservation Nature Center
Located off 179 between highway 50 and Industrial Drive. The Runge Conservation Center opened in July of 1993. The Architect was Booker Associates of St. Louis. Exhibits designed and fabricated by Deaton Museum Services, Minneapolis, MN.
The building consists of 27,000 square feet and cost approximately $4 million dollars including buildings, exhibits, parking lot, staging area. utilities and trail development.
It has a 211 seat auditorium, 3 classrooms, a library, wildlife viewing area, and a 3,850 gallon aquarium with fish native to Missouri.
It sets on 112 acres of forests, wetlands, prairies, fields, ponds, and a glade. There are 6 trails some ADA accessible. You might have to double back on a short trail or two but you can get in a 3 mile walk while enjoying the music of nature's songs.
