Norris Geyser Basin
Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest geyser basin in Yellowstone. There are two sections, The Back Basin and The Porcelain Basin. The Porcelain Basin is characterized by a lack of vegetation. This area is constantly changing new geysers immerge while old ones die. Norris Geyser Basin is home to the largest active geyser in the world, Steamboat Geyser. Steamboat can reach 380 feet. Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and most changeable thermal area in Yellowstone. It consists of 2-1/4 miles of trails and boardwalks. Rainbow Colors, hissing steam, and pungent odors combine to create an experience unique in Yellowstone. Porcelain Basin is open terrain with hundreds of densely packed geothermal features; in contrast, Back Basin is forested and its features are more scattered and isolated.
