Blue Ridge Parkway 2012
Read MoreDry Falls located in the Nantahala National Forest in Macon County, North Carolina. Located along US 64 about five miles east of Cullasaja Falls and 1.25 miles west of the Highland City limits. Easy trail consisting of a series of steps and damp walkways. The trail to the falls wraps around the falls allowing visitors to walk behind it. Be prepared to get a little wet but worth it. This hot was taken from behind the falls. Setting up was a problem for me because of the falls being so white from the afternoon sun and my back ground was also in hard sunlight. The area I was shooting from was all shaded and somewhat dark. My approach was to take a series of shots underexposing each one. Processing them with an HDR problem did not yield good results. I opted instead to blend them manually using the underexposed shots for the background sky, normal shot for the water and overexposed shot for the foreground rocks. Taken with a Nikon D600 using the 24-70mm lens set to a focal length of 24mm. Aperture at f/8, shutter speed at .6 seconds, and ISO at 200. Taken at 3.01PM. Not good light for photographers but makes for a challenge. This was one of my favorite falls because you could get so close to it.
