Blue Ridge Parkway 2012
Read MoreCullasaja Falls, located in the Nantahala National forest in Macon County, North Carolina. Cullasaja consists of long cascades and numerous falls approximately 200 feet in height. This fall can be seen from the roadside on US 64 west of Highland. According to "Great Water Falls of North Carolina, written by Neil Regan the best spot for photographing this fall is from the road, that the descent to the base is steep and does not yield the best shot so we opted to shoot from the road. Nikon D600 with a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 lens set to a focal length of 100mm. Taken at 8:32AM on 10/13/2012. Aperture f/16, Shutter Speed, .5 seconds, and ISO 200. Polarizer and tripod. It should be pointed out although I like to shoot waterfalls at slow shutter speeds, it is not necessary to shoot at the speeds I choose. You can still get a smooth or cotton candy look but with more detail of the water at speeds between 1/10 to 1/30 of a second. It all depends on the amount of and force of the water going over the falls or cascades.
