Badlands 2010
Wild mustang herd on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Land outside Cody, WY. We visited this heard back in 2006. We were lucky they were grazing close to the road. BLM only keeps approximately 500 mustangs in this area of approximately 150,000 acres. It looks plush now but normally there is very little grazing here. According to locals these horses are easy to adopt out because they are part mustang and part quarter horse. Buffalo Bill Cody would graze his wild-west show quarter horses on this land during the winter. Naturally they breed with the mustangs.
