Greer Spring
The trail head is located approximately 18 miles south of Winona and 7 miles north of Alton on Missouri Highway 19 and close to the bridge that crosses the Eleven Point River. There is a gravel parking area on the west side of Highway 19 and public restrooms. No floating, no swimming, no wading, no disposable items, no pets without leashes allowed. The nearby Eleven Point River is equally pristine and undisturbed and offers, floating, swimming, wading, and crystal clear water.
Spring Water #3
This image was processed in monochrome because I could not get the highlights in balance with the rest of its surroundings. It just didn't come together for me. Part of the problem is high contrast of lights verses dark's and shadows, I should have bracketed this shot, and it was shot at high noon which yields pretty harsh light. I shot this at f/10, a shutter speed of 2 seconds, and ISO at 100. Looking back I could have shot this at a faster speed, say 1 second or less to reduce the amount of light hitting the sensor and then attempted to recover the dark areas in post processing. Of course this was 10 years ago and I was shooting with a Pentax K7 and 14MP camera. However, I ended up liking this as a black and white image. The white peaks in the water appear to lead the viewers eyes from left to right on down stream. I converted this to black and white in the "Bridge" (Raw Converter) and was able to use the saturation sliders to adjust the the colors and the luminosity sliders to darken or lighten the colors. I think this helped bring out the shades of green in the leaves. to correct this problem I could 1) bracket my shots, 2) used a faster shutter speed with a smaller aperture, and 3) Used a ND Filter and combined it with a polarizer.
