Greer Spring
The trail head is located approximately 18 miles south of Winona and 7 miles north of Alton on Missouri Highway 19 and close to the bridge that crosses the Eleven Point River. There is a gravel parking area on the west side of Highway 19 and public restrooms. No floating, no swimming, no wading, no disposable items, no pets without leashes allowed. The nearby Eleven Point River is equally pristine and undisturbed and offers, floating, swimming, wading, and crystal clear water.
The Spring From the Cave
This composition can be hard to get to when the trees are in full bloom plus in recent visits the area has grown up a lot. The water is a lot deeper here than it looks but I would love to get a shot into the cave. On my bucket list is to hike over the top of this cave and attempt a shot from the other side but that area is pretty rough and steep. This was captured at f/16 for 10 seconds and ISO of 160. I could have shot this at a faster shutter speed to prevent any blowout of the water's highlights. This was taken with the Nikon D700 and a Nikor 80-200mm lens. I like everything about this composition. The white trail of waster leading into the cave and the mystery of the spring within. To me the colors are rich and complement each other. Of all the times I have visited this place this is the best view of the cave I have been able to get.
